I want to learn Spanish so I can be more competitive in the job hunt. Is it too late to start?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: language school san francisco

I'm a social work major who plans on moving to the San Francisco Bay Area. I'll be a lot more competitive if I am bilingual Spanish speaking. At the age of 22, is it too late to start studying a foreign language?

I did 2 years of French in high school and have since forgotten most of what I learned.
So far I've received great answers–that's not me who gave you guys a thumbs down. Keep the answers coming!

So should I minor in Spanish or just learn on my own through software?

nope it is never too late, and since u are so young, ( hun, I'm nearing the big 4-oh!) you will be ok. I agree, it may seen hard, but I think u can do it. Try the rosetta stone, I hear that is a gr8 way to learn a foreign language. Many older , ahem! ppl use it with great results!

please help, what are some?

UCLA and UC Berkelely have about the same level of difficulty of being accepted to. Compared to the other schools you listed, these two are probably the hardest to get into. However, if you are planning on getting into engineering, UC Berkeley has the better program and professorial staff. Latter is equal to, if not only slightly inferior to that of Stanford insofar as engineering is concerned. However, comparing the costs of a Cal and Stanford education, many agree that Cal is better dollar for dollar, costing only about half of that of Stanford's. Cal has as many nobel prize winning professors as Stanford, a feat not shared by UCLA. Also, Cal is still arguably the best public university in the world, which makes it a better choice than UCLA, most especially in the engineering field. Both of my two kids are Cal students – one already a graduate, and the other a junior come August. And I know how difficult it was for them to get into Cal. For example, my daughter was valedictorian of her h.s. graduating class, president of the student council, had honors and AP classes, and was also a tennis player in h.s. Still. she barely made it to Cal. The lesson: not only does Cal look at GPAs. It also looks at success potentials outside of GPAs, ie. meaningful extra-curricular involvements. My son was in the top ten of his class, had lots of honors and AP classes, was in the student government, played football, and was in an elite choral group and jazz ensemble of his h.s. that played in London, Canada, and NYC. Still, he barely made it to Cal. Cal is tough, but tops. Its students are well-rounded. So go Cal. But build up your extra-curricular portfolio. God bless your goals.

Why do a lot of people think that Polish people are stupid?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: language school chicago

Why are there jokes about them being stupid?
Why do some people not know that if someone is polish they are called polish not poland?
Why is polish not a language to teach at school when most of chicago is polish…and it's polish community is growing rapidly?

only an ignorant person tells those types of jokes

Is there any day care of early childhood learning centre for my 18 months old baby boy in Singapore?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: language school singapore

We would like our son to learn english and chinese as a first language. So we would like him to go to school in Singapore as where we are staying, we don't speak those languages.Thanks.

I think it is too early for him to become a linguist. Find place that provide for his developmental needs.

The typical 18 month old:

* Has a closed anterior fontanel (soft spot on the front of the head)
* Is growing at a slower rate and has less of an appetite compared to previous months
* Is physically able to control sphincter muscles, but may not be psychologically ready to use the toilet
* Runs with a lack of coordination and falls frequently
* Jumps in place
* Is able to get onto chairs without assistance
* Walks up stairs while holding on with one hand
* Can build a tower of 2 – 3 blocks
* Can use a spoon and cup with help
* Imitates scribbling
* Can turn the pages of a book 2 or 3 at a time

The typical 18 month old

* Shows affection
* Listens to a story or looks at pictures
* Can say 10 or more words when asked
* Identifies parts of the body
* Understands and is able to point to and identify common objects
* Frequently imitates
* Feeds self
* Is able to take off some clothing items, such as gloves, shoes, and socks
* Begins to feel a sense of ownership identifying people and objects by saying "my"

PLAY RECOMMENDATIONS

* Encourage and provide the necessary space for physical activity
* Provide safe replicas of adult tools and equipment for the child to play with
* Allow the child to help around the house and participate in the daily responsibilities of the family
* Encourage play that involves building and creativity
* Read to the child
* Control the type and quantity of television viewing
* Control the type and quantity of games played

Cheap way to teach Spanish to kids?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: language schools atlanta

I homeschool my 3 kids and as part of any high school program they will need to learn a second language. Since the population of Spanish speaking people is ever increasing here in Atlanta, I figured that would be a good language to learn.

I know there are expensive programs out there to buy to learn, but is that one that is cheaper? We've tried online resources and library materials but it's not a "program". Anyone used anything other than R*setta Stone with success?

My secondary question is what age is too young to start without confusing kids? My 2.5yr old already knows some basic Spanish that he's heard me talk to my older kids but I get concerned that he'll misunderstand the meaning. Thanks!!
Wow, such great advice!! The only issue with Rosetta Stone is how $$ it is. But I'll check my library! Thanks for letting me know that it's not going to confuse my kids to learn early. I appreciate hearing from those that grew up in bi-lingual homes and learned both just fine! Thanks!

I've always heard that its easier to teach kids when they're young because they'll pick it up better and faster.
As for the program, I wouldn't know.
