From that moment on, all of our phones have been ringing off the hook due to all of us calling each other at every and any waking moment possible, to talk about the trip. It was planned. We would be flying from the SeaTac Airport to the El Rosa Airport at 4 AM on July 13, 2008 and come back exactly 6 weeks later. This would be our first big trip together and it would make our lives change forever, even more than we would have thought! We would be on flight number 1376 on Mexico International Airlines. There were five tickets, one for each of us, and we would be staying at Priscilla’s grandma’s friend’s home who just happens to live next door to This trip, though we may not know it, is going to change our lives and have many twists and turns that will carry all of us on a journey, together.
“Flight 1376 is ready to board, I repeat, Flight 1376 is ready to board, if this is your flight, please report to terminal C9 to board the plane. Thank you.” That was our cue to get out of Starbucks and get going towards our terminal before we miss our plane, which wouldn’t be good, not good at all. Priscilla ordered a light caramel frappicino with triple shots and whipped cream, Salina ordered a mocha cappuccino, Jackie, a pumpkin spice frappicino, Diana a black coffee, and Aileen, a hot chocolate. After all our orders were completed, it was 3:40 AM! SHIT! That means that we have five minutes to run across the airport with drinks in one hand, luggage in the other, and whatever else Salina, Jackie, Priscilla, Diana, and/or Aileen might be carrying along. We pass California Pizza Kitchen, getting a little closer to our destination but with only four minutes left. We convert from a jog to a full out sprint and all of our drinks begin to spill along the edges of the cups and our luggage is practically being dragged, but none of this matters if we FREAKING GET ON THE PLANE IN TIME!!!! We get so desperate we just drop our drinks on the floor, pick up our bags, and run like there is no tomorrow, and there won’t be if we don’t get that plane! By the time we were in the C terminal, there was only one minute left! OMG! Running through the crowds of people and weaving through obstacles, we finally found terminal C9 and ran to the guy at the check-in counter and gave him our tickets. Then we tiredly dragged ourselves into the small tunnel that connected to the plane, picked our seats, conveniently all in one row, and dropped ourselves into the comfort of the supple leather seats and prepared for a journey of a lifetime.
We each entertained ourselves with diverse activities throughout the long plane ride. Diana doodled on every possible little space in her notebook, both Jackie and Salina were listening and singing along to their IPODs, Priscilla was taking millions of pictures of herself with her new hot pink Polaroid digital camera, and Aileen was playing with her brand new Nintendo DS. Finally, three hours later, three ELONGATED hours later, we landed at the LAX Airport in Los Angeles, CA. Next, we were supposed to go on Flight 9286 to Mexico City, Mexico at 9:50 AM at terminal B3, according to Priscilla, and meet Priscilla’s grandma’s friend named Claire. For now on, let’s just call her Claire and not have to elucidate the whole Priscilla’s grandma’s friend thingy all the time. Anyways, it was about 7:15 AM and Salina’s and Priscilla’s stomachs were growling, what’s new? We all decided to go to Burger King for breakfast – I know, how healthy – and everybody ordered some kind of salad because this summer, we were all trying to lose a few pounds at the least. We had about 2 hours and 35 minutes to kill so we were strolling through the airport, shopping, getting drink and snacks, looking at books in BORDERS, and just pretty much browsing around. All five of us, I guess, were preoccupied with something because none of us had noticed the announcement for Flight 9286 at 8:50 AM! We found that out when we went to terminal B3 at 9:50 AM on the dot to board the plane and were told that the plane left an hour ago. Aileen had the initiative to ask the employee if we could catch another plane but unfortunately, flights to Mexico are infrequent so there wouldn’t be another one for about 4 weeks! What are we going to do in Los Angeles, CA for four weeks?! We can’t just decide to fly back to Washington because that would mean we came out here to California for nothing! We left Washington State looking for adventure and the best summer ever, and little did we know that what we were looking for was right around the corner.
“Hey ummmm…. Mom?” Jackie said hesitantly. “Hi honey, aren’t you supposed to be on your flight right now?” Jackie’s mom answered back questionably. “Uhhhhh…. Yeah that’s the problem….. we kind of missed our flight…..” Silence. “WHHHAATTTT!!!!???” “Ummmm…. Well the worst part is that their wont be another flight to Mexico in four weeks.” Jackie says quietly. “Oh my god, young lady, you are going to be in so much trouble when you come back!” Jackie’s mom yells and then in a calmer voice, “Let me call your aunt who luckily lives in that area and have her pick you five up. Meanwhile, just stay there.” Psshhh…. Like we have any other place to go.
The LAX Airport was a pretty exciting place to be considering the fact that some celebrity that we couldn’t see due to the crowds of paparazzi and the many security guards surround and what seemed to be, a tall blonde celebrity. We probably each thinking, Wow, I wish I was famous so I could be: in all these magazines and photos, filthy rich, have everyone worship me, known to all people, and able to do whatever I want. The paparazzi always following you everywhere, unlimited money, hang out with all the famous people in the magazines who you longed to be, and have special treatment anywhere you go, being famous would make life seem a lot easier. All of a sudden, the blonde celebrity began walking towards the ladies room and darted through the door. After her entrance, the five out of twelve bodyguards she had stood in a row covering the entrance to the restroom. “Oh my god, we have to get in there!” Priscilla whispered as she began to huddle the five of us into a tight circle. “So let’s decide the game plan now. Diana, get all your red inks and paints and color Salina’s “lower area” red, then Salina, go up to the security guards and ask for a tampon and say its an emergency. Then Diana, go up to the some of the other guys and start gibbering to them and just start talking REALLY fast. Jackie, you need to stand up on the tables and chairs and have like…..a singing performance or something. I dunno, you’ll think of something. All three of you need to distract the paparazzi, bodyguards, and people in the airport so Aileen and I can break in through the janitor’s entrance without being seen. We’ll be as quick as possible, I promise. Does each of you know your position?” Salina, Jackie, Aileen, and Diana all seemed confused by what Priscilla just explained and kind of just stood their shocked for a few moments and a minute later, they shot their hands in the middle of the huddle and yelled “BREAK!” The diabolical plan has begun.

pretty good plot but VERY CONFUSING TO READ! i had no idea who was telling the story. you keep switching back and forth between first person and omniscent. pick one! either use the all knowing narrorator or pick a character to tell the strory. first you start out with omniscent then it switches to priscilla then back to omniscent and it keeps going back and forth and for all i know other people were narrorating it throughout the story as well. figure out who's telling the story and then edit it and i'd be happy to tell you my thoughts again. i hope i wasn't too harsh but it is a big problem. it is a pretty good story, it's just hard to understand.

It is a little confusing and hard to follow. A bit informal, too, and you need to make the point of view more clear and the introductions more attention grabbing and clear.

It is a great story, but it hints at some fantastic four ideas. Some people might think you stole the idea.

It's a great piece, in general, with some style mistakes and a lot of editing to be done. But you're well on your way!

They are all highly educated, very experienced, and knowledgeable. They also all believe that the Official 9/11 Commission’s Report is not addressing too many legitimate questions to be considered a legitimate endeavor and that “WE the People” deserve better. Like the truth, but that just isn’t going to happen unless our Congress puts the interests of the people before the interests of the large media lobbyists and the people who probably have a little “dirt” on each member and could hypothetically be holding it over their heads as a threat to remain complacent or else.

People from all over the world are fascinated with the city of Los Angeles. Each year tourists from around the world come to Los Angeles. They come to visit famous landmarks like Grauman’s Chinese Theater, hoping to see where famous movie and television stars have had their handprints, footprints, and signatures in concrete. Tourists also love to drive down Rodeo Drive to go sightseeing or shop at upscale stores like Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Prada, and Tiffany & Co., just to name a few. Some people hope to catch a glimpse of someone famous coming out of these stores. On the other hand, there are some people who don’t understand why someone would want to move or live in Los Angeles. Los Angeles is seen as an over-populated city where natural disasters like earthquakes and wildfires happen frequently. Like many other cities, Los Angeles has its advantages and disadvantages that people enjoy like the wonderful weather, diversity, and job opportunities.

Living in Los Angeles offers diversity in people, cultures and food. There are all kinds of different ethnicities from around the world that live in Los Angeles. Therefore, there are many different kinds of restaurants that people can choose from. These restaurants can range from P.F. Chang’s to Roscoe’s House of Chicken’n Waffles to In-N-Out Burgers. They can choose to eat Chinese food, Japanese food, Vietnamese food and also American food on different days. There are also many places where people can go to like, Chinatown, Thai Town, and Little Tokyo. This kind of diversity makes living in Los Angeles a great way to experience different cultures. For example, people can at a workplace where there are many employees of different ethnicities and there is a language barrier, so they communicate with each other in different languages besides English. Los Angeles also offers a taste of the different cultures living in this diverse city.

There are many job opportunities for people who live in Los Angeles as well. People can work in the Los Angeles County or work for the City. Jobs like clerks, architect, and engineering pay higher salaries with benefits. Los Angeles also offers a variety of jobs in the film and television industry. Therefore, people live and move to L.A. because they are aspire to fulfill their dreams of becoming actors, actresses or broadcasters in Hollywood or Burbank where Walt Disney, Warner Brothers, CNN, and Paramount Studios are located. There are also many shopping centers like malls and outlets around Los Angeles where retail jobs are available. This makes L.A. a good place not only for students to work and go to school at the same time, but also for people who are looking for part-time job or full-time job.

Another advantage of living in Los Angeles is the great weather. People like living in Los Angeles because they can go to the beach and the mountains year round. During the winter it does not get too cold, with temperatures dropping down to about 40 degrees at night and sometimes 80 degrees during the day. For example, people can go to Snow Summit at Big Bear Mountain to play in the snow, go snowboarding or skiing and the next day they can go to the beach. During the summer time it can get pretty hot with temperatures in the mid 90’s to the low 100’s. For example, people can go outside to the beach, go to a park to have a picnic or go to water parks like Raging Waters and Hurricane Harbor. Although, due to Los Angeles lack of rain, there are fire-warning alerts throughout the hottest time of the year. The fires can occur along hillsides, mountains, and very dry brush areas where the heat of the sun or a cigarette can ignite a wildfire.

Although, one can find oneself getting around L.A. is not always easy. Traffic in and around the city can be a disadvantage. The freeways do not always move as smoothly as they can. Rush hour traffic can be daunting and frustrating especially if one had to drive through it. Los Angeles is home to some of the busiest freeways in the country. With gas prices rising and with no end in sight, people are finding different ways to get from point A to point B. For instance, people are trying to carpool or ride the bus or the Metro in order to get to work and around the city. Some families only drive their cars on the weekends to go on family outings.

Another disadvantage of living in Los Angeles is the cost of living. Many people cannot afford to buy a home because the rising housing market prices. For example, a house with 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms can be very expensive depending on the area. This is why many people cannot afford to buy a house at this time. If they cannot afford to pay for it, the bank takes it back. This is the reason why there are a lot of foreclosed homes because homeowners are not able to pay their mortgage. Rent is also on the rise in L.A. An apartment can rent for a few thousand dollars monthly for a 2 bedroom and 1 bath apartment. Therefore, it is really hard for people to maintain a comfortable living in Los Angeles with the rising cost of living.

Finally, the crime rate in Los Angeles is also pretty high. This is true of many cities but Los Angeles is home to many gangs. Gang violence and homicides happen at an alarming rate and unfortunately innocent people are killed because rival gang members shoot at each other. It is not only homicides that occur, but also robbery that happen everyday in the Los Angeles area.

Despite all the disadvantages, I continue living in Los Angeles. I like being a part of the melting pot that Los Angeles has to offer. I like having friends of different ethnicities as we go out to different restaurants because I get to taste different foods and learn more about their cultures. I also love the summer weather in Los Angeles because I can go to the beach to play some beach volleyball. Although, I do get frustrated with running into traffic, the cost of living and the crime rate. It helps that I have a strong bond with my family and friends around the Los Angeles area.

I told the others that sterilizing actually does do damage to dogs' bodies; dogs can die during the operation, will act like babies all their lives if sterilized early, and won't develop properly.

As for docking and cropping, I said that a lot of dogs injure their tails when they whip them back and forth and then they have to get it surgically removed – way more traumatizing than docking at an early stage. I also said that dogs' ears can get sores when the dog is a worker and gets into all sorts of things outside (like a hunting Doberman), so it would be fine to crop then. (I don't think Labs or goldens should be cropped because their ears are designed better for getting in the brush than that of Dobes.)

And of course, I am against declawing. Emily told me that it's "impossible to train cats not to scratch" and Amy and Rabia agreed with her! I told them, yes it is, then why are there so many other people who own cats WITH CLAWS and are just fine?

I also told them that if they happened to have a stubborn "untrainable" cat they could use Soft Claws which help and are painless to the cat.

Have you been successful in training cats not to scratch?
Oh, I mean training cats not to scratch in inappropriate places. Of course you can't stop a cat from scratching AT ALL. I just mean, can you train a cat not to scratch in inapproriate places?

And for the record, I do not own a cat. I asked this question so as to prove to the other three girls that you can train a cat to only scratch on appropriate objects, like a scratching post.

A cat needs to scratch, that's natural behaviour and should not be punished at all! sometimes though, this behaviour can interfere with our lifestyle and we don't want our best sofa or newly fitted carpet being used as a scratching ground.
cats scratch because they want to keep their claws in good shape. the claw-nails are shed and underneath sits a new and sharp nail which provides the best protection possible for self-defence.
scratching is also a form of territory marking. every time a cat scratches, it leaves its personal scent behind. small glands between the toes make that possible.
you can watch how a cat stretches itself while scratching. this helps to keep the muscles in it's legs, back and paws in good health. the claws act as a sort of anchor, and are buried into the surface of the scratched item.

Problem
most commonly destroyed are furniture, ripped carpets and stripped wallpaper.
you want to eliminate the problem before it occurs. buy or build a stable, tall scratching-post, right from the start. here are some tips to do it right:

• the post should be at least 60-80 cm high, covered with sisal-rope
• get more than one, especially when you have a multi-cat household
• place the post close to the wall, a corner or close to the furniture which are most at risk
• introduce a new scratching-post with some catnip sprinkled on its surface, cats love that and its more attractive to them
• if your cat starts scratching the "wrong" object, say "NO" and carry your cat gently to the desired post, take its front paws and start scratching movements with its paws
• never force your cat too much. when it starts scratching the post by itself, make a big fuss and give it a treat
• when you have a kitten, start early with the "pawing at post" technique
• show your cat and scratch your own nails against the rope, cats pick up quickly what you mean
• invest in a so called "cat tree", which acts also as a leisure area for your cat, different textures and heights make it more interesting, you perhaps want to build it yourself
• try some repellent like pepper-dust or some commercial products on your furniture to keep your cat off this area
• be persistent and don't give up to soon

Is education important to you? WHEN I WAS YOUNG: When I was young, I remember hearing about the immigrants that came through Ellis Island . They wanted to learn English. They wanted to breath free. They wanted to become Americans. We welcome legal immigrants who come to this country the right way!!

Now too many immigrants come here with demands . They demand to be taught in their own language. They demand special privileges–affirmative action. They demand ethnic studies that glorify their culture.
